Rochester's new Food Scraps Recycling Program begins Saturday, September 19. The program is available to Rochester residents at no additional fee, with food scraps collected at marked carts at the Department of Public Works and processed into compost. The city says the program will accept items such as fruits and vegetables, dairy, bread and grains, meat and bones, eggshells, coffee grounds, cooking oil, and approved compostable products. Plastic, glass, metal, pet waste, and other listed contaminants are not accepted. An informational booth will be available at the Downtown Rochester Farmers Market on launch day.
