The right home size depends on how you would use the space, not simply which listing has more of it. My advice is to compare layouts alongside price before expanding your search requirements.
The latest reported Riverside sales include 122 homes under 1,200 square feet in the displayed size distribution. The same distribution includes 88 homes between 1,200 and 1,400 square feet. The typical sale price for the combined single-family, condo, townhome and apartment market was $680,000. The size counts do not provide a separate typical sale price for either size range.
Those counts establish that homes of different sizes sold, not that a particular size offers better value. I would pay close attention to usable rooms, storage and layout before treating additional square footage as essential. Your budget and must-have features should guide the tradeoff between space you need and space you would merely prefer.
Write down how you would use each room and which space limitations would rule out a home. During visits, compare circulation, storage and room dimensions rather than relying on the listing's total area alone. Review recent sales of similar homes with me before deciding whether a larger property's asking price makes sense.
