Your purchase budget should begin with costs you can comfortably afford, not the price of a typical home. I want your search to leave room for the priorities that matter beyond the purchase.
The latest market report covers Tampa single-family homes, condos, townhouses and apartments. The typical sale price was $425,000. The typical asking price among homes listed for sale was $439,000. These asking prices describe listed homes, while the sale prices describe completed sales.
Neither price tells you what payment fits your finances or what a particular home should cost. I suggest establishing your comfortable monthly housing expense before deciding which listings deserve closer attention. A lower purchase price can still require careful budgeting for insurance, taxes, maintenance and any applicable fees.
Ask a lender to explain payment estimates and the money needed at closing for your proposed purchase. Separate your must-have features from preferences you could reconsider without undermining the purpose of your move. Bring that budget and feature list to me so we can evaluate homes against the same priorities.
