Astoria, NY: Local News, Events & Community Guide — October 2026
Updated: October 31, 2026
Astoria, New York, is a northwestern Queens neighborhood along the East River, with residential blocks that vary in scale and housing form. Two- and three-story row houses and semi-detached homes are common in northern sections, while larger prewar apartment buildings are more prevalent south of the Grand Central Parkway; mid-rise walk-up and elevator buildings, one- and two-family homes, and higher-density multifamily housing also appear across the area. Mixed-use corridors on Astoria Boulevard, Steinway Street, 30th Avenue, and Broadway place shops and services alongside housing.
Astoria's N and W subway service connects stations along the elevated Astoria line with Manhattan and the wider New York City transit network, while major bridges and roadways extend connections across Queens and toward Manhattan and the Bronx. Astoria Park provides a substantial East River waterfront setting with trails, courts, playgrounds, a track, and shoreline views between the Triborough and Hell Gate bridges. Together, these connections and daily-use anchors give buyers, sellers, and renters practical context for comparing housing by street setting, building type, and regional access.
