Kings Park, NY: Local News, Events & Community Guide — October 2026
Updated: October 31, 2026
Kings Park, New York, is a hamlet in the Town of Smithtown on Long Island's North Shore, with a defined commercial center along Main Street and Indian Head Road surrounded by established residential streets. The local housing pattern is primarily single-family homes, with apartments over some commercial spaces and low-rise civic and business buildings shaping the downtown. Nissequogue River State Park and the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center campus give the area a distinctive combination of riverfront landscape, wooded areas, open fields, and historic institutional structures.
Everyday services cluster around the Main Street commercial district, which includes retail, offices, community facilities, public spaces, and the Kings Park branch of the Smithtown Public Library. The Kings Park station places the hamlet on the Long Island Rail Road's Port Jefferson Branch, with connections toward Jamaica and New York City, while Suffolk County Transit Route 56 links the station with Smithtown and local destinations. Nissequogue River State Park adds trails, fields, canoe and kayak access, and riverfront landscape, giving buyers, sellers, and renters practical context when comparing homes near commerce, transit, and open space.
